This thing is such a dog, I feel completely ripped off.

Here in Illinois, it's the law to have hands-free in the car, so I picked this up. What a giant disappointment.

1)It sits outside the ear and has the stability of a Happy Meal toy. Lean either direction and it's all over. Turn your head to look behind you and it's all over. I spend most of my time in the car pressing it as hard into my ear as I can, to hear anything. And it's not like I have a convertible or anything, its a jeep Liberty.

2)The call quality is for crap. I have my phone (Palm pre) mounted on my dash and people tell me I sound like a angry bees trapped in a dryer. I called myself and left myself a voice mail, and its true. If you speak in a normal tone of voice, you cant be heard. If you yell, then it just sounds worse. Your voice goes in and out, its just a hot mess.

3)And it's not the phone, when I pair it with my car stereo, there's no problem, even when the phone is in my pocket.

4)As stated above, the tech support blows. You get more info on Google then you will from "Denise" in Bangalore.

5)My old Windows Mobile phone actually required the Bluetooth pairing code before I would see it. This is a Motorola thing, not a Bluetooth or phone thing

In the end, you get what you pay for. But if you pay more than about $35 you are paying too much. Pony up a couple more bucks and get something that doesn't suck.

I was pleased with my purchase of the Motorola H500 Bluetooth. The packaging was wonderful and the product arrived in great condition. I didn't realize the bluetooth was going to be as big as it is, so I am still adjusting to the size. The reception is very clear and the headset is comfortable once you adjust to it.

This review is for the Motorola H500 Bluetooth Headset (Silver) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging]

I bought it because I needed a spare bluetooth headset, and for the price ($16) it's a great deal. I usually don't mind the frustration-free packaging, but this one seemed like a return/refurbished item because 1) the call button seemed discolored (used?) and it comes off the hinge on one side, and 2) the cord on the power supply seemed like it was just wound up by someone who does not care. It works okay as a bt headset. I've had a few people complain about not being able to hear me, but it is not always the case. Also, the ear hook takes a while to get used to, and the best way to put it on is to open ear hook so that it is perpendicular to the main body, slip it on your ear, and then close it snug to your ear. Because I use it only as a spare headset, I have not used it as much as my main headset (Motorola HS850) which is one of the greatest bt headsets I've used.

Now, the issues are popping up. The call button does not answer the phone when I receive a call. It no longer powers down: When I press the call button several seconds, it acts like it shuts down but it is still connected and I can still answer the phone with the headset. When I want to use my other bt headset, I have to disconnect this one through my phone first. If I can return this unit, I will without hesitation or without looking back.

Right now, the only positive thing about it is the mini-USB connection for charging, which means I can use any old Motorola charger, or even a portable HD with a mini USB connector.

If this was my only bt headset, I probably would give it three stars. I would still dock at least two stars because of the other things. Honestly, I cannot recommend this to my family, friends, colleagues, or readers of this review. For the price, I would recommend the Motorola HS850, which has not failed me once, and I have gone through two units now. The only reason I stopped using my first unit was... well, I lost it.
